Our History
Florida
Women of Hope began in Florida in 2016 when a small circle of women united to support another woman facing a personal crisis, offering compassion, resources, and a safe space to be heard.
From that moment of solidarity, the “Walk N Talk” was created—an open, recurring gathering for any woman seeking encouragement and connection. Inspired by its impact, the group formally adopted the name Women of Hope under the vision of Wanda McMurtry and hosted their first Mother’s Day Brunch. Now their signature pre–Mother's Day event occurs annually each May.
Alongside their empowerment initiatives, the women also serve the broader community through an annual backpack giveaway, providing students with essential school supplies to begin the school year with confidence.
Our Mission
Women of Hope, Inc. provides information, access to resources, and a wide range of activities and services designed to empower, strengthen, and enrich the lives of women, their families, and their communities. We are especially committed to supporting marginalized Black, Indigenous, and other women of color in areas where disparities or inequalities persist, including but not limited to healthcare, housing, employment, entrepreneurship, and other factors essential to a good quality of life. We continuously research, identify, and stay informed about the evolving needs of women, addressing gaps in existing services to help women of all ages sustain their mental, physical, spiritual, and financial well‑being.
Moving Forward
Boston
Women of Hope Boston began taking shape in 2019 after two Bostonians, Thelma Hyatt and her daughter Jennetta, attended the Women of Hope Mother’s Day Brunch in Florida and were deeply moved by the event’s spirit of women empowerment.
Inspired by the mission and determined to bring that same hope to their own community, Women of Hope Boston was established in 2020. Shortly after Thelma’s passing, the Boston chapter held its first signature event, a heartfelt “Luau” celebration honoring her legacy. Their signature Luau event is held annually in July.
In 2021, Women of Hope, Inc. formally organized as a nonprofit, uniting its chapters under a shared commitment to uplift and empower women.
